The next Shibui Knits design I am going to spotlight is our Meridian. I am currently knitting one for myself.
Meridian was a fun piece to design. Fairly straightforward, with a bit of a challenge on the short-row shaping at the neck edges on the overlapping fronts. I used a Double Long-Tail Cast-On to add a little weight at the lower edges of the body and the sleeves to help prevent the fabric from rolling.
Meridian is created using our mercerized cotton yarn Rain, held single on size 8 needles. I love knitting with Rain. To quote the description on our website: “Rain is a mercerized cotton elevated by lustrous sheen. Its elongated chain construction retains shape and drapes with fluidity”. Rain is all of that and more.
The pattern was written with a short sleeve and a long sleeve option. Meridian is knitted primarily in Stockinette Stitch, with slipped stitch edgings on the generously overlapping fronts. It is a fairly easy knit with short-row shaping at the front neck edges.
I would consider Meridian to be a wardrobe essential, to be worn again and again. With both sleeve options, it can be worn year round.
Knit on!!
