I had the great, somewhat rare, honor of sitting next to a kindred spirit, a fellow knitter, on my commute to work this morning. We of course immediately started talking about knitting. It was such an amazing conversation. It was actually more than that. It was a sharing of passion.
She is on her way to Canada to visit her mother. Her mother told her that she no longer sits in her rocking chair and knits, so she doesn’t need to bring her knitting. They have lots to do! I know that she would dearly like to have her knitting with her.
She (her name is Coral) asked about the piece I was working on and I was able to share my story with her. I was a bit overcome with emotion and got a little misty-eyed. In that moment my passion was reignited. She looked at me and said “Thank you, Shellie. Thank you for sharing your passion.” I in turn thanked her for allowing me to.
Sometimes I can get a bit complacent and take for granted the fact that I am literally living my dream. The daily ho-hum can overshadow. I can get a bit lost under the weight of the amount of work to be done.
But then I share a magical moment with a fellow knitter named Coral and the embers of my passion are ignited once again.
I’ve learned a big lesson today. I will do my best to find out what people are passionate about and I will ask them to share it with me. It is amazing what that sharing can do for your soul.
If you happen to read this someday Coral, thank you. Maybe we can knit together one day.
